Almost

My son is 11 months, 1 week, and 2 days old.
Which means he is almost one year old.
And that means he is almost a toddler.
Who is almost school-age.
Before we know it he’ll be graduating.
And then it will be time for college.
Where he will meet some girl (or boy).
Who can’t possibly be good enough for him.
Then he will have children.
Who will become his whole world.
We will still be important.
Of course.
But not in the way that we are now.
My son is almost one year old.
And I’m not ready.

Sorry, it's going to happen whether you like it or not.
But don't feel bad. It happens to the best of us!

Kristin, I used to wish I could just stop time and keep them little forever, but I never did figure out how to do that. And now I have a 15, 13, and almost 11 year old. Time is racing by and sooner than I know, my oldest baby bird will fly the nest. And I am not ready. Milestones are so bittersweet, and some of them are just plain bitter. But we find the strength somehow to accept each one as it comes. And it's harder than ANYTHING in life to slowly (and sometimes NOT so slowly) let go and let them grow. You are so right to treasure these days with sweet little Mac. And you know what? No matter how old he gets, when he's hurt or sick, you and Tracy are the ones he will come to (or call.) You will always be his touchstones. <3 <3
P.S. AND he'll come to you or call when he's excited or happy (or whatever) about something, too! What I just wrote sounded too doom and gloom for me, so I had to edit! ;)
Oh my goodness! Congratulations!!
They grow up waaay too fast. Like you said, soon he'll be in college and dating Ms. or Mr. Right. So not fair that it goes by as quickly as it does.
I have to say though, reading your blog makes me (momentarily) want more kids.
I too wasn't ready for our girls to turn 1. I had a really hard time with it, but now that it's come and gone and they are a whole 13 months, I'm ok :) So far, the toddler years aren't so bad ;)
They grow up WAY too fast, don't they!?!
You can never be ready for children growing up, but fortunately it happens very smoothly :)
